Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique – July 16, 2025

Whales ahoy! Maputo National Park is buzzing with excitement as humpback whale season begins. As part of an Important Marine Mammal Area, the park is a vital habitat for whales and dolphins, especially during the migration from July to October. To ensure these majestic creatures thrive, the Boating Code of Conduct is essential and is common practice around the globe.

“Maputo National Park is a sanctuary for marine life,” says Angie Gullan, founder of Dolphin Encountours Research Center. “By following the boating code, we protect our whales and dolphins for future generations.”

Towards the end of 2023, the Mozambican Government, through the ministry of Land and Environment established specific rules and regulations for the Maputo National Park that details permitted and non-permitted activities; operator limits and codes of conduct for permitted activities like scuba diving, marine mammal watching and snorkel/ocean safaris (boat trips that have a specific destination set for snorkeling or a guided sightseeing cruise along the coastline not dedicated to marine mammal watching). The related Boletim Da Republica can be found below.

Join us in promoting responsible boating to safeguard these special species.
