Date of Incident: 200823
Incident Type: Green Turtle Stranding
Location: Maputo national Park - Ponta do Ouro
On 20 August 2023, MNP ranger Filimon found a small green turtle on the beach. The female was unable to dive and was brought to DERC for examination. The turtle looked to be in good health however did have some surface bite marks - the origin of which was unknown.
After housing her overnight, she was transported to the vet in Maputo for rehabilitation were it was discovered she was free of pneumonia (an illness associated with this species) and had no air trapped inside. She is currently still in rehab in Maputo and we eagerly await her return to return her back into the wild.
